IIT Madras Launches Advanced AI Upskilling Programme for Working Professionals

Chennai: As artificial intelligence adoption accelerates across industries, IIT Madras has introduced a new upskilling pathway for working professionals through its innovation arm, IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation. Admissions are now open for the second batch of the Advanced Certificate in Applied Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, aimed at professionals seeking industry-ready AI expertise.

The seven-month online programme, delivered in collaboration with TimesPro, is designed to help learners move beyond foundational AI concepts and develop skills required to build, deploy, and manage scalable AI systems in real-world business environments. The course includes live interactive sessions, hands-on practical training, and a short campus immersion at the IIT Madras Research Park.

Rising Industry Demand for Applied AI Skills

Deep learning and applied AI are no longer confined to research labs or pilot projects. Sectors such as banking, retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and logistics are actively deploying AI solutions for demand forecasting, fraud detection, automation, and customer experience enhancement. This shift has increased demand for professionals who can not only design algorithms but also operationalize them in production systems.

The IITM Pravartak programme directly addresses this gap by focusing on end-to-end AI implementation, including data handling, model deployment, and system reliability.

Curriculum Focused on Real-World Deployment

Participants will gain hands-on experience in machine learning and deep learning fundamentals, data processing using Python, and model development using industry-standard frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch. The curriculum also covers MLOps and cybersecurity, ensuring learners understand how to deploy AI solutions securely and responsibly at scale.

According to McKinsey’s State of AI survey, 88% of organizations globally now use AI in at least one business function, reflecting rapid enterprise adoption. Meanwhile, a UN Trade and Development report projects the global AI market to grow from USD 189 billion in 2023 to USD 4.8 trillion by 2033. In India, the AI market is expected to expand significantly over the coming decade, highlighting the need for skilled professionals.

Strong Industry Participation and Career Outcomes

The first batch of the programme attracted professionals from banking, automotive, healthcare, education, and software industries, including CTOs, technical leads, project managers, and solution architects. Graduates of the programme can pursue roles such as data scientist, machine learning engineer, deep learning engineer, and AI analyst.

Dr Suchitra Veeravalli, Consultant at IITM Pravartak, emphasized the programme’s applied focus, stating that modern AI engineers must translate models into measurable business value while ensuring responsible deployment.
